There are many things you can’t find on a beach, but in a hinterland area, you get 100% free fresh air.
GTDC Chairman and Sanvordem MLA Shri Ganesh Gaonkar addressed the launch event at Tambadi Surla, South Goa and said that the project will help boost the economy of the region and generate more employment for the local people.
Why Goa Ready for Hinterland Tourism?
Goa is a very popular tourist destination, with 8 million tourists visiting the beach every year. As tourism experts point out, many people are now exploring Goa’s hinterland for travel and adventure options. The Goa government is turning its focus to the less traveled hinterland areas.
The chairman assured tourists that they would be safe and that safety is a major concern of his. To become a state based on the concept of “Atithi Devo Bhava”, he said that the monsoon trekking project will be extended to other regions.
The chairman said that qualified guides would be available to show tourists around. He said that the tourism guides would be trained by the ‘Goa Tourism Development Corporation’ and the Forest Department. Only certified guides who have completed the certified course will be allowed to accompany the tourists.
Nikhil Desai, GTDC Managing Director, told reporters that the first trek of the monsoon season has already started. “It will be a four-hour trek where tourists will enjoy seeing the flora and fauna and how beautiful the hinterland is,” he said.
He also said that this track will be run on Sunday only.
